Monkey Tree

I have a mature Monkey Tree which has been turning brown since last year. An expert told me it was drought but we have had so much rain recently and it is getting worse. Is it a lost cause ?

the lower branches always turn brown and fall off.

Probably. The damage would have been done last year, so it wouldn't matter how wet it is now. Same with things like conifers/firs etc.
Long term dry conditions do the damage and it's not often reversible unfortunately.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Are the new branches at the top dead?  The bottom ones go brown,  you can cut them off or wait until they drop off.
This one is a good example taken from Google,

I wouldn't call that mature, your garden isn't totally in the shade.
    Yet.
