Something like Geum Sea Breeze

Hello!

I have a good clump of this growing in an old rockery in my front garden. I'm really fond of it, and it thrives where I live (almost like a weed). I'm probably 100m from the beach. Seems to do well for me even in a corner in deep shade. It's all under an evergreen tree.

I'm wondering if anyone has some ideas of a plant with a similar nature that I can also plant in the rockery to add some variety and good ground cover / weird suppression...

Thanks in advance..

Armeria - [ ie Thrift] is always good, as it's basically a coastal plant, but also grows inland especially in awkward, poor quality ground and sites, and at altitude.
It likes sun, but I've had it in semi shade, so it's worth trying.

I presume you meant weed suppression, not weird  ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

You don't know that. If anyone ever comes up with a weird suppressant they'll be quids in! 🤓

I think it's a massive leap of assumption to presume I meant weed suppression!

Great idea on the Thrift. It grows abundantly on a nearby tidal island, so I will definitely try to give that a go!

On a slightly more serious note, although you've had success with your Sea Breeze, if you put geum into the search bar you'll read loads of comments about them being straggly and not really worth the effort of all the dead-heading. The thrift sounds like a much better plan.
  • I'm such a donkey. It's not the Geum I have. Its this:

If that grows well for you, try Erigeron karvinskianus, similar but with white/pink flowers and more delicate foliage.  It prefers sun but I have it in several locations including light shade.
    Wirral. Sandy, free draining soil.
