What's the most useless gadget you ever bought?

B3B3 Posts: 27,505

It doesn't  even work badly. It doesn't  work at all.
It was to hygienically  replace washing up sponges and scourers  for ever. One wipe and it's  done. Run it under the tap and it's  clean. Yeah  right
Apparently  can use it as a 3-4 inch diameter pot holder I don't  think so. Oh and it's  supposed  to help you to open jars too.
I suppose  I  could use it as a Christmas  decoration.

@B3. It’s just a big StickleBrick,  my son had a set of those,  great fun.

  • A garden pump for emptying the pond. It has no ON/OFF switch at the business end. You have to leave it running, which the "destructions" say you shouldn't do, while you walk back to the socket end, inside the house probably, to switch it on or off.

I bought myself one of those hoses that is supposed to enable you to transfer water from the bath upstairs, to a container outside at ground level. It was supposed to save me carting buckets of water out of the bathroom, down the stairs, through the house to the back. I have a tendency to drop things - so you can see my mind working overtime here, to save dropping buckets of water in the house!!

Did it ever work? Not a chance!!!
We've opted to move house, and have a downstairs bathroom. I don't want to waste water, particularly in times of drought.

Admittedly, this past month, we've had enough rain, but it might not always be the case.

As for the original purchase - I binned it!!

The most useful gadget I've ever spent out on, is my wife. I couldn't do without her. She's 100% top-class, worth EVERY penny, every pound, and every minute of our decades together.

A small battery cube thingy that was supposed to de-husk sunflower seeds, useless, they just fell straight through, even the large ones.

I’m reminded of a Gervaise Phinn story of the teacher at a primary school taking the morning register ..

    ”Harry Green?”
”Please Miss, it’s Harry Baker now, me Mam’s remarried.”
“Oh, is that Dave Baker?” pipes up another lad.
    ”Yeah.”
    ”We ‘ad ‘im. He’s useless.”
