Bird of Paradise leaf problems

Hi all,
My BoP has been growing well with no concerns up until three days ago when I suddenly noticed this dark spot on one of the leaves. The dark spot also feels less dense that the rest of the leaf. Any ideas what the problem could be?

    Welcom to the forum.
A few questions to get the ball rolling:-
How long have you had the plant, what size pot is it in, is it in full sun, do you feed it regularly, and is it possible to get a photo of the whole plant, please?
  • Bought it around 2.5 years ago, replanted for the first time in April this year in a 27x 25 pot (diameter x height). Since the soil is fresh I am not fertilizing at all after reporting. Just plenty of water when the top soil is dry. The house is facing north so it only gets maybe an hour of direct sun in the summer.
Oh and I have been dealing with fungus gnats after repoting as well. But nothing too major.

I think your plant would benefit from more light if that is achievable (and this summer that is a problem even in south facing rooms). Fungus gnats can be a real pain but I find that hunting them on a daily basis usually gets rid of them pretty quickly. The plant food in compost doesn't last very long so you could maybe give the plant the odd feed now. As to the brown spot on the leaf......there are so many reasons this could have occurred from underwatering to overwatering to too much or too little light, or a fungal problem. If I get damage to houseplant leaves I get rid of the leaf and keep my fingers crossed it isn't anything major. Sorry I can't be much help.....I was hoping a strelitzia expert might hove into view.
