Lack of petals on coneflowers?.

These usually produce lovely healthy flowers, but not this year.  They are struggling to produce and petals, the ones they are producing are raggy.  Any ideas?.

Yours are doing better than my double Mandarin.

Two possibilities are asters yellow and eriophyid mites.  I had the same thing happen the year before last with my double Raspberry Sorbet, which I've had for years.  Luckily, this year it's blooming as normal.  I could have sworn I looked for the reason back then and it had to do with weather conditions, but I'm not finding it now.  That particular year and this year were exceptionally wet.

edit to add: The bed where the Mandarin is kept has four other echinacea varieties, all of which are healthy and have normal blooms.

I have been spraying them with Bug Clear thinking it was some kind of pest 🤭.  Hasn't done much good though.
