Poached egg plants struggling

First time growing these and I sowed them from seed this year.

The small container had been yellowing for a while and generally not looking that great but recently the larger container is going the same way-

Any ideas on how to rescue them? Worth cutting the larger ones right back?

I feel the heavy rains a few weeks ago didn't help with the compost staying pretty wet, especially with the smaller container.

I find it’s what they do after flowering. They’re an annual … I think most folk let them self seed then pull up the original plants.

Surely not this early? This small container hadn't flowered that much.

I've got other annuals in small pots and they're still going strong.

Not all annuals flower for the same period.
An annual’s purpose in life is to set seed .., once that’s done its reason to live is over and it dies. If you’d dead-headed the plants they might’ve flowered a bit longer … but not much.
