Euonymus Japonicus what has happened?

My euonymus japonicus was absolutely fine last week. I snipped off a few little bits that  looked like they might encroach on the pavement and all was well.
Today, a chunk of it is crispy and dead. I cut it out and the branch looks healthy inside. There's a hole in my euonymus now😐
What happened?

Can you post a photo of the ailing plant, please?

I cut out the dead bit and threw it away. The rest of the plant seems healthy - I hope. The dead bit had brown crispy leaves , no bugs, scales, fungus - just dead.. Unfortunately/ fortunately , there's nothing to see now. @Ceres

  • Hey there! Bummer about your euonymus, dude. Sounds like it was all good just a week ago. Weird how things change, right? Don't stress though, it's totally fixable. Maybe it's just going through a rough patch, you know? Keep an eye on it and give it some TLC - it'll bounce back soon enough!

If it's next to the pavement, maybe that branch got damaged low down. Leant on, stepped on, child rode their bike into it, that sort of thing ? It'll grow back - there's a reason why they're so widely used for municipal planting.

There's a low fence in front of it. I'll try and get under it tomorrow to see if it got damaged somehow

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

    Howdydudey @Fairygirl
The animal would need really short or really long legs!
Maybe it's one of those beavers they released🤔
