Late Planting

HI,

I have a sunny but exposed border that I usually grow sunflowers in. This year the sunflowers didn't take. It's now late July.

Soil here is classic red devon soil.

I plan to try again next year, but I would like to put something in to give some cover and colour for the remainder of this summer. As I say, I want to do sunflowers again next year, so would just need annuals.

Any ideas?

I'd pay a visit to the local GC and just see what they have to offer. They usually have mature annuals that will give colour for th erest of the season.

I agree - there's usually some bits and bobs in the supermarkets too. Ours has full sized Cannas and I'm tempted every time I go in!
It's really too late to sow stuff yourself.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
