Does anyone have any experience with Magnolia Vanilla Pearls? It seems like a perfect little shrub from its description but for some reason Crocus has discontinued it. I wonder why?
A lot of shrubs will be unavailable at this time of year, as the best time for planting is Autumn through Winter. Mid summer is the worst time of year for planting, and it is likely to fail without a lot of attention and watering.
It seems to be different from their usual Currently Unavailable status. I checked it early last week I believe and in addition to being Currently Unavailable it said Discontinued. I tried to find it on their website now but it's just gone completely and doesn't appear in the search...
It's the kind of newish commercial variety that is bred en masse in Holland it looks like it's available from a lot of retailers, according to Hayloft (tiny plants don't bother and their ridiculous prices) they have availability for May 2024, presumably when they are in flower and looking more saleable https://hayloft.co.uk/product/magnolia-laevifolia-vanilla-pearls/su23435 so a bit of patience is required until next spring.
@amancalledgeorge, sorry I think I didn't explain my query very well. I wonder if there is anything wrong with this magnolia that would prompt Crocus to stop selling it?
