They smell when they’re in an open space like the broom cupboard but in insulation or under floor boards it soon goes off.
I think they smell when flies get to them, otherwise they just mummify. :# A hot loft will dehydrate a dead mouse in no time.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Well, that's ok then. :D
  • I found one in the basement of my workplace - I could lift it by the tail, and keep it horizontal!!!😳

Yes,  that’s what I mean,  buried in the insulation you won’t know they’re there.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Over the decades I’ve used poison, sonic beepers and traps.
these days I only use traps … that way you can dispose of the bodies and you know how many you are taking out …
uk bought beepers don’t work in my experience …. As for poison you just don’t know if it works unless they die somewhere convenient … they also become immune to it !

  • And I use cranberries, raisins or chocolate on the traps … well not much chocolate to be honest as I like it too 😁

They never worked in our last house. Utterly useless. We had to physically trap and dispatch them - they could get in and work their way along all the gaps between the original house and the new built extension, and into the electrics cupboard. Not ideal. You could hear them running up and down 'through the walls' at night.

It would have been impossible to plug all the gaps when you bear in mind how tiny the  holes are that  they can get through.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I used to keep pet mice. They can escape through extraordinarily, unbelievably small holes. Ask my mum. She's musophobic! 🤣
