Moving ancient lavender

I have to install a water butt exactly where the lavender is. Do you think I can transplant it in October? Will it survive?

Best way would be to take some cuttings now and grow on.
Looks to be rather large to transplant successfully and you would need to cut it back and have a good hole prepared to put it in.

Thank you. It is about 2 metre diameter and I am a bit attached to it, but cuttings it is.

The easiest and fastest thing to do is to buy a new plant.  And keep it pruned.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.

Prune it back to ground level. Dig the rest up. Trim the roots and stick it somewhere to see what happens but take some cuttings first as suggested above just in case.
