How to manage a runaway Rose?

jamesvintjamesvint Posts: 1
Hi, I have a Rose that I don't know what to do with...it's 2 meters tall (see picture), and just grows straight up - never bushes out. Should I cut it back, or try and tie it to an arch or something? Not sure, advice appreciated, Thanks Jimmy

Wait till it stops flowering ,or cut them off and put them in a vase if you like . Cut it back a little then in the Autumn ( November time) prune it down to about 10 “ it will come back in spring and then keep it pruned . Sugggest also a deeper and larger pot .

I wouldn't call that a runaway rose, but it's never been pruned adequately during its time, by the looks of it..
You need to be ruthless and brutal to attain a bushy shape, not fiddling about around the edges snipping off bits here and there..

You can do this now.   Prune off all the top growth down to about 1 foot, so you are left with just the trunk.  If you then apply a decent rose fertilizer and water that in, it will reshoot quicker and form a bushier plant before late summer..

Use the cut flowers for a vase or somesuch..
