Banking

I've got 40 meter banking that slopes down,  would slate chippings be OK or would they slide down or bark chippings
What sort of plants to have on banking

    How steep is the slope?

Bark or chippings will slide down a slope.

@anne.morrison33htoMQCRZ Do you have a photo? Often the best thing to do is plant it up to anchor the soil.

Hypericum Calycinum works well on a bank.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

@Busy-Lizzie and @pansyface I love it when people recommend plants that I actually have...in abundance!

Vinca minor. Not too thuggish and easy to rip out if it gets too comfy.

Cotoneaster - many will spread across difficult ground and help to anchor it, but it would help if you can give a lot more information @anne.morrison33htoMQCRZ.
Your rough location, climate, the soil condition and type, the size of the space and the aspect are all factors in choosing something that will thrive without too much attention. I'm guessing 40 metres is the length but the width/depth is also useful to know as it will determine sizes and amounts of plants to use   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Ivy. Or almost any ground-cover plants.

    Try micro-terracing.
location: Surrey Hills, England, ex-woodland acidic sand.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
