What is this? brown hairy cocoon containing eggs

What is this that I’ve found attached to the underside of a leaf on my young pear tree?

As you can see, it looks like a brown colour ‘hairy’ cocoon of some description.

I picked the leaf and lifted up the cocoon and it contained lots of tiny eggs (I quickly threw it into our garden waste bin so didn’t take a photo!). Any ideas what this is? Do I need to be worried?

Thanks in advance.

That’s it! Thank you. Now to find out whether that’s a problem and if so, what to do about it 😬
