What kind of Jasmine is it? If it's the Jasmine officinale ( common jasmine), you can cut it back as much as you like.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

As far as I know common one, white flowers about a month ago, lots of leaves, not sure how to prune or when

If If We this one you can prune off as much as you like.

Mine hasn't finished flowering yet so I have just removed the stems that are finished. I'll do the rest when they finish flowering.
When the leaves drop, I will cut it right back.
You can shape it now and remove anything that is in the way or strangling another plant and later when the leaves drop cut back to a size that is smaller than you want it to be eventually. You can do this any time before the leaves return.
You won't damage the plant by pruning it.

Thanks, will try that just didn't want it to die as never pruned before and the base of the plant is extremely thin and woody
