it looks like a gall caused by a wasp.

They're not really pests, they don't do damage.
I'm a bit doubtful about that being an Elder, they have opposite leaves

Possibly Prunus padus (Bird Cherry). Alternately opposite leaves, and could account for the small black fruits?
