Tomato Ozark. Blossom end rot

My Ozark tomato fruits have developed blossom end rot. I am so disappointed as the  plants were doing so well. I will try them again next year but if the same thing happens I shall be binning the remainder of seeds.
The other two varieties, Big Mama and Cocktail Crush are unaffected, same greenhouse, compost, treatment, feeding, watering regime etc.

    Hello Joyce

Irregular watering.  Nothing to do with the seeds.  It's unfortunate but it's here as well - big time.  My neighbour grows tomatoes for the markets and is inundated with end of blossom rot.  He has been growing tomatoes for decades.  It's been very hot, very windy.  Everything is basically being boiled alive!

So far I haven't got any but I water either very early in the morning or late in the evening when the soil has cooled down a bit.
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

BER is down to watering problems
… it also affects individual fruit rather than the whole plant so if you can amend the watering the rest of the crop should be ok.

I sometimes get two or three fruits a year with it, but not more than that, no matter which variety I’m growing.

I agree with all of the above, I normally get a few fruit with blossom end rot early in the season but the rest are ok.  I picked 3 of my Shirley tomatoes off yesterday which had it but hopefully that’s it for this year.

  • Thanks everyone. The variety must have a delicate disposition if the other varieties are unaffected. Will still bin them if it happens next year. I will wait to see if the flavour stays their execution.
