Lavender colour fading

Some of my Lavenders are very pale, almost grey looking. I have lots that have self seeded but none are very vibrant in colour. Can I do anything to liven them up or is it down to variety? tia

It’s just all down to variety. 😊

There are so many different varities of lavender. In our garden we have 7 bushes and they are all different. A couple are of a dark colour while some are as you said more grey looking. Yes we all love to have that intense lavender blue but the various varities still give a great perfume and the insects love them all.

The ones we buy as named varieties have been bred by deliberate crossing and selection and then multiplied by growing from cuttings and come true.

Sadly, any seedlings they produce may revert to other genetic factors in their make-up, including having duller flower colour.

If they still have the lavender smell you could cut them off, dry them and use for cooking.
we’ve got a lovely lavender cake on the go at the moment.
