Identifying something mysterious!

I'm just emptying out a flower pot that had been taken over by weeds, so I cannot remember what was originally in there, as it came from my mother's garden. When clearing the old roots out, I've come across these odd fingers of something - either strange roots or bulbs? Anyone have any idea what they are? I don't even know where to start Googling!

Are they quite small? They look like lesser celandine.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

@Busy-Lizzie I think you are right. It is amazing how invasive this plant can be.
  • Yes! I now remember those growing in there, thank you! I will put them back, I like them and they are contained in a pot, and I think had grape hyacinths originally with them, so it made a lovely purple and yellow display. I'll pop some new bulbs in and wait for next spring! Thank you so much.
