Linaria Canon Went

CrazybeeladyCrazybeelady Posts: 778

I've grown these from seed and I suppose I'm wondering what next for them. Obviously they're not going to do much this year, but should I plant them out, maybe autumn time? Will they get through winter OK? Or shall I wait until next spring to put them out?

They might flower this year, butt I would definitely get them in the ground once the roots fill the pots.  I've potted some seedlings up for someone and thats what the plan is.

I would plant them out now that they are good sized plants. They should have a good root system, judging by the foliage. You might well get flowers this year. Keep them well watered for the rest of the year. You can take cuttings for more plants....

They grow like the clappers in my garden in Essex. I sowed some Canon Went a few years ago to complement the blue one that pops up everywhere.
So I now get both colours.
I've got plants that size and I'd expect them to be flowering within a few weeks

I really didn't expect any flowers this year so you've all got my hopes up! OK, I shall plant them out imminently, I don't think keeping them watered is going to be an issue looking at the weather forecast! Thanks

I think you have just accidently identified my mystery wildflower. It's growing where it never grew before and looks like a purple version of that! WooHoo!

Once you've got them, they spread, but easy to pull out if you have too many or want to pot a few up for friends.  I have one this year that is quite a dark pink, I might get some seeds off it.

Can’t always guarantee the seeds will be true,  they usually revert back to purple version. I sowed pink ones years ago,  hardly had any pink seedling from their offspring,  but occasionally one will turn up.  Got one in the GH among the tomatoes at the moment, 6’ tall already.

  • These self seed everywhere & grow anywhere! It honestly doesn't matter what you do to them! So id put them in where you want them now. Im surprised they are not flowering already though. But they do like the sun but perhaps my eyes are deceiving me & they are tiny? The leaves look huge for that plant so im guessing they are. Plant them anyway.
