I dug this plant up today and would love to know what it was.
It had daffodil-like leaves on the stalks remaining. The second picture is the underside showing the roots, which consist of thick tap roots and lots of fleshy white roots, which kept breaking off as I was digging it out.
Thanks in advance.

I agree, Agapanthus. I dug out a big old one earlier this year (nothing special, nondescript pale blue) and the roots were just like that except more of them, and yes they kept breaking off (but they haven't regrown from the left-behind bits).
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Thanks for the reassurance that the bits won't grow back! Spent ages picking them out, but feel sure I will have missed some!

I started trying to pick them out, then I asked on here and the consensus was that they wouldn't grow back from the bits of root so I left the rest.
