Runner beans and French beans

Good afternoon everyone,

Need some advice, could someone tell me please what is going on with my Runner beans (2 pots on the Left side) and French beans ( 2 pots on the Right side)

Leaves have gone brown and crispy, I did spray the leaves 2 days ago with fairy liquid due to aphids.

But not sure what is going on with them.

Thanks

I’ll take a punt on insufficient nutrients in pots that are too small. Beans are greedy feeders and will have soon exhausted the stock of nutrients in the compost. Though the picture shows soil that looks moist I wonder if erratic watering has further stressed the plants.

Next season I would use pots that are twice as large or, better, put the plants in the ground. This year I would water the plants frequently adding Tomorite once a week.

Not knowing your exact conditions, but I'll say wind damage as mine are the same and mine have been religiously fed once a week.

But, if they're in a sheltered spot then go with @BenCotto advice.

  • Thank you, they are exposed to the wind where they are but also I agree I stuck to many plants in the pots, I'll give them more feed. I have some feed tomorite and miracle grow? Which one would be best and how many times a week please?

I would use Tomorite once every ten days or so.

    Keep them well watered.

james19105k_N_bt_R  If pots are your only option, I'd say you're up against it anyway?  As others have said, your plants look undernourished which is another symptom.  If you can find a large half-barrel, say 2ft in diameter, that you can stand in a shallow tray, the barrel should have holes in the base for irrigation with good soggy composted material in the bottom 50% and soil in the top 50%.  No tray?  Make one out of a row of bricks around the barrel with a sheet of strong plastic covering them to hold water.
