Move cosmos advice

Hiall, i have some annual cosmos that have grown much bigger than i expected (supposed to be dwarf variety but are waist/hip height.. They are not on flowering yet - can I move them?
i know you shouldnt move plants generally at this tome of year but wondered if Id get away with it as they are smothering nearby plants and small shrubs im trying to establish
any advice on this wouod be fab

    @PotteringMad Can you prune some of the side stems back? You will loose flowers but getting light to more important plants is best.
    You do have to check heights with Cosmos as they vary so much. I made the same mistake again with a new border but luckily realised just in time and Sarah Raven did a swap.
    Some of the large Cosmos do flower late and it is possible not at all.
    They thrive on neglect and love a poor soil which might be the reason.
    I have never moved them maybe someone has but personally I wouldn't if they are lsarge plants.
     
    I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

    You can move them if you move a large root ball with them and water in well. You may need to stake.
