Iceberg climbing rose in memory of my doggo

I lost my beloved doggo Jack aged 16 years a month ago. I planted this rose in his memory and his ashes are part of this beautiful rose:

I wish I could garden all year round!

Looks like a reflective spot to sit and think about your time together, no other kindness like giving a dog a good life.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Jack lived to a very good age and you must miss him so much.

I planted a rose in my garden 5 years ago in memory of my beautiful dog Coco and it is always known as Coco’s rose.  When we moved house 3 years ago I dug it up and replanted it in our new garden and it’s thriving.

You will always look at your rose and remember Jack, it’s a lovely memorial, what type of dog was he?

Sorry for your loss too CatDouch.

Yes miss him daily - house is empty without him.

Jack is a Jack Russell Terrier. I rescued him when he was 12 as nobody wanted him and he had no future. Gave him the best years of his life and really thought he would make it 20 years as was so fit and healthy. Sadly he struggled to walk in his last month, so I went to the vet for stem cell treatment, thinking his knees were getting worse, but when he was imaged, his condition was in fact a lot more serious than thought, so we had to make the awful decision for his sake.

When I move, like you, his rose is also going with me, along with my other 2 doggos plants (Magnolia and another Rose).

    Very much so TenN  :)

My office is also directly facing him so he's with me all the time.

What a lovely thing you did @M33R4 rescuing him and giving him a wonderful life.

I always remind myself of this quote from Dr Zeuss at moments like this “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened”.

When you feel ready, please have a look at Oldies Club to rehome another older dog.
  • My daughter and son in law had to have one of their two cats put to sleep about 4 years ago. They buried him in their garden and planted a Russet apple tree over him. It has thrived and "Perry's Apple" has already begun to reward them with fruit around the time he died.
It is a great thing to do in memory of a much loved pet of any kind.

How lovely @Joyce Goldenlily . We've just had to have our elderly cat put to sleep, his name is also Perry :'(
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • Perry was not even my cat and I still feel the empty space he has left behind in my daughter's house and garden when I go over the water their plants while they are away!
It was years before I got over the loss of my last dog/shadow Meg. A leaf moving, seen from the corner of my eye and I would think she was still there. Still do sometimes. So painful, but so many happy, fun memories as well.
Perry was like a large puff of golden thistledown, always ready to take advantage of a warm lap.
Meg was like a piece of polished jet, her curls sprinkled with tiny diamonds.
So different from each other but just as much loved and missed.
