Hostas, worth letting seeds develop?

    I’ve tried a few different varieties,  they all turned out plain green. 
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    I've never understood that.  I worked for someone who wanted the flowers removed because they were "too messy".  Well, aren't all flowers messy at some point?  I love to see my hostas in bloom.

    I think our local hosta breeders (Mickfield Hostas) remove most of the flower stems to prevent flowers dropping on the leaves and spoiling the foliage.

    I leave the flowers until they've gone over and then cut the flowering stems to just above leaf level. The flowering stems make a handy marker for where the plants are when all the foliage disappears in winter. Stops me sticking a garden fork through the crown....

    Thanks for all the comments. I’m going to leave the developing seed cases on, they are quite attractive at the moment now that I have taken the manky dead petals off.
