Plant ID help

Matty_PMatty_P Posts: 64
Hi all,

We've just moved in to a house and are now blessed with having a garden. On the down side I'm struggling to identify some shrubs as they don't have flowers and most apps I've used struggle to ID them and I wondered if anyone would be willing to help please. Nothing fancy I'm afraid!

I've attached 6 images, 2 of each plant. I have labelled one as Philadelphus mock orange(184222 & 184233)-at the time I think I ID'd it based on its flowers but I now don't remember what it looked like and now looks quite non descript. Looks like might be about to flower again if they have multiple rounds of flowering

Images 184127 & 184135 is woody with small leaves, no flowers so far. It's about 3m tall.

Images 184527 & 184539, about 2m tall, no flowers. Quite large waxy looking leaves,Reddy brown shoots.

They're looking quite bushy and wondering if flower on new or old wood-confusing new terms for me and therefore want to know if I can prune them back now or have to wait until autumn or even spring.

Thanks for the help

Could you post again with a maximum 3 to a post? Two would be better.

Hi @mattpearson182Ompg23SS - I wonder if you've got your images mixed up now you've split them into pairs?  You initially said that 184222 and 184233 were the same plant, but they appear now in different pairs...  if I'm right, then I think YOU'RE right that this one is a philadelphus.  That will flower on new shoots, so the aim of pruning is to take out some of the old, flowered wood, leaving shoots which have grown this year to flower next spring/summer.  Ideally you prune it as soon as it's flowered, to give the new shoots the maximum time to grow before winter.  Don't prune it in winter or spring or you'll cut off the flower buds.

No.2 looks a bit like a camellia to me... but I expect someone will know.

Not sure about the other one.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Hi, yes you're correct not sure what happened there. Non-descript picture names didnt help.

Ok Camellia and Philadelphus, that seems quite probable now I've seen some photos, thank you. I will aim to prune both asap then as I think they have both flowered already.

The third will have to remain a mystery for now.

    Thanks again
