Phillipasmith the owls that were eating my cats were the majestic great horned owls. They have a wingspan of almost 5ft. Here is a picture of them in front of the barn.
The pond becomes a lake when the dang beavers cut down my new apple trees to dam up the creek leaving the pond and raise the water level two feet up into the yard
Met this fella on a walk earlier this summer. Harmless, but nonetheless a nasty bite. I retreated when I saw him/her and haven't used this track since. You never know, there might be a mate and babies. A ladder snake.
I saw a young snake on my pool surround, it popped down the wooden terrace - obviously lives there. Yes, they eat rats and more and there are around here.
Each to their own. We can all live together in our little crooked house but mind your ankles!!!
That certainly is an impressive ‘pond’! I’d definitely call that a lake! What a fantastic range of wildlife in your garden. Love beavers, owls, ospreys, and admire snakes at a distance. Don’t fancy sharing my space with copperheads ( or would that count as sharing their space?) Will stick to our grasssnakes!

Makes a lot of sense when you start thinking about it so never questioned the logic.
