Bees nest on/in the ground

I was cutting back an unruly patch of garden this morning.  I picked up a clump of old grass cuttings and realised that there is a bees nest in and under it.  Didn’t get stung so I’m assuming they are not an aggressive type of bee.

Google tells me that spraying with a mix of water and certain essential oils will make them abandon the nest and move elsewhere (next door at least 🤞).

Has anyone had success with this or any other natural way of getting rid ?  I don’t want to kill them obviously.

thanks as always

They'll be gone soon, if they can't stay those bees that can fly will do so when you dig them up, the rest will die.

Do you really need to move them on yet? As nutcutlet says they'll be gone in a few weeks anyway.

Thanks both.  I’ll have a think, see if I can work around them for a few weeks.

I suppose I could cover it while I’m working close by - an upturned terracotta pot for example ?

I’d just leave them bee … covering the nest could disorientate and confuse them … not something that would keep them calm…  I’d let them carry on their own sweet way and keep a few feet clear of them. Most of them will follow the same flight path, so observe that and leave it unobstructed. They’ll bee happy and so will you. 😃
