Tall Flowering shrubs

Advice please. I want tp plant a couple of tall flowering shrubs, growing to sufficient height to cover 7ft fence and neighbours shed.. Soil is clay and aspect is sunny. Am thinking of lilac, buddleia mock orange blossom. Or other suggestions from my fellow gardeners?

What room do you have? No point in making suggestions if you don't have the width - most shrubs get as much width, in every direction, as the height.  :)

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Another question what is your soil like?
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • Thanks for these. The soil tends to be more clay than anything else and yes, there is space to accomodate 7ft width.

Choysias would probably be ok, but it will also depend on whether the clay has been improved or not, as well as your general location.
Unamended clay [especially in a wetter, colder area ] is boggy and inhospitable for months from autumn through winter, but in warmer areas it can crack and dry out in summer which isn't great either.  :)

This is my wigela earlier on, grown from a cutting my sister gave me. I don't know what it's called. South facing. Stonking flowers on it this year and it's planted in London clay.
