Fig leaf problem

I have a fig (brown turkey I think) in a pot outside, which is about 5.5ft tall. It’s against a wall in south facing garden and I’m currently watering it twice a week in this very dry weather. Last year around early July I noticed the leaves didn’t look their usual rich green colour & they then started developing dark brown speckled patches, which spread across almost the entire leaf. Some of these leaves turned a bit crispy, though not all, but eventually all of the leaves were affected & fell off, leaving the tree without any leaves at all by around the end of July.
The same thing seems to be happening this year, shown in the pictures below.
Does anyone know what’s wrong with it?

Tortrix moths, possibly. There's a few recent threads on the subject if you use the search function
    In London. Keen but lazy.

That looks almost like a mould or rust. Are you in the UK?

Yes, I’m in West Wales. I wondered if it was rust but it didn’t quite match the images I was finding of rust on a fig.

I am stumped. It's difficult finding anything about fig diseases in the UK.
I have a few figs in pots and they get watered every day when it is hot and dry so maybe your plant is stressed due to not getting enough liquid.
    Another possibility.....are the leaves sticky?
