1. use a knife cut off the ear since breaking off the ear can cause that delays
ripening of the second ear.
2. wear gloves and long sleeves when harvesting corn  corn leaves can cause
painful  cuts on your hands and arms.
3. if plan on boiling the corn. start boiling the water before you go pick the corn
4. the best tasting corn is picked by short blond kids with bowl hair cuts
and red eyes.
5.if plan grilling corn make sure you start grill before. go pick the corn
6.if there is something that looks peanut butter on the corn
it mean the corn worm has gotten to the ear before you did and you will
have cut that part off ear off.
7. make sure the ear is ripe before you pick it.
8.shucking the ears is best done outside to prevent
mess from leaves and tasseling in your house.
9. once you remove all the ear from the corn plant you can either
cut the plants down or let them dry to use them for fall decorations.
10 corn is one of few good reasons to use salted butter
11. use a napkin on you lap when eating corn directly from the cob;
it can get messy and the butter  can drip.
12.if the corn tastes to starchy it is over ripe.
13. the if kernels are soggy you over cooked or cooked it at too high a temperature
14. what is the socioeconomic impact of jimmy cracking corn and my indifference
to it.
 hope these ideas  were helpful

ps 4. relates to movie children of corn
ps 14 you need to ask Bill Watterson who wrote the comic strip Calvin and
hobbies about.

In UK you usually only get one ear per stalk. Any extras don't get to ripening before frosts unless you live on the Isle of Wight.
Check whether it is ripe enough by peeling back a few outer leaves to check the kernels have filled out.
Mine are currently 4 ft high and no sign of any flowers yet.
We feast on corn in September.

Variety grown depends on choosing the right one for the growing conditions.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • many early varieties produce two ears.
early varieties are usually best varieties to grow in uk.

the problem here is the color of kernels is judgement on you
white kernels are considered the more  refined here and
other places yellow is color of choice for sweet corn.

a white variety called silver queen is how all other varieties are judged
here. that how good that variety is.
