Shabby lawn looking for help re: plan of action

Hi there

I've just cleared my front lawn of dandelions, using a dandelion tool.  Along with pre-existing bare patches I now have a fair few holes in my lawn.  I'd be looking to fill with a grass seed/compost/sharp sand mix but since my lawn is in a poor state anyway I'm looking to try and bring it all up to scratch and as such was wondering whether I should hold off with patch repairs for now whilst I address other issues (my lawn is prone to moss).  As I'm pretty much a gardening newbie I thought that I'd consult the experienced gardeners here as to the best sequence of actions to get my lawn looking bonnie (aeration, scarify, treat etc).  I am planning down the line to add wild flowers, possibly using plugs, but my goal at the moment is to make my current shabby lawn look its best.

That doesn't look bad to me, considering we had a long dry spell. If I were you I'd just keep mowing little and often, but not too short.
There's not much point in spending time and money for a perfect even smooth lawn if you're going to add wild flowers anyway.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • I'd be looking to add wild flowers at various places, like at the far end next to the slate river bed rather than uniformly.

I'm inclined to agree with @JennyJ - from your pic, it doesn't look too bad to me considering the recent weather
As to where you site your wild flowers, I guess that depends on what "look" you want to achieve ?  Very formal  looking at present so would you be happy to make the whole area appear less so or not ?  Bit of a fine line but good luck anyway  :)

I've not been mowing at two spots near the slate river and would like some more colour there, and possibly also at the section to the bottom right of the image so that there is a demarcation between formal and informal.  The grass is still a bit bald there from where I had let it grow there previously.
