Propagating perennial Phlomis

ERICS MUMERICS MUM Posts: 627
I have a large unruly clump of phlomis which I’d  like to propagate so eventually I can plant up a smaller area and dig up the rather “past it” mother plant.

what is the best way please ?  Division, seeds, non-flowering stem cuttings (either in compost, vermiculite or water).

thank you

If you mean Phlomis russelliana I just ease a shoot off the edge with a bit of root ,  cut back all except the tiny new leaves and replant or pot up. It's not a miffy plant, it puts up with that, though in hot weather I'd probably pot and put in the shade

I find it spreads easily when happy so just take bits off the edge and re-plant or pot up.  Done in spring or autumn and after the plant has had a good drink works for me.

It’s easy from seeds,  that’s how I got mine in the first place.

Thanks everyone, sounds promising I’ll give it a go.
