We have a large rhododendron growing on a grassy bank and many of its leaves show clear evidence of vine weevils.
Despite this they are not something I worry about, because in many years here I have only once found vine weevil grubs and that was in a potted Heuchera and they may even have come with it. The Rhodie shrugs them off and Heucheras in the ground are not troubled by them and neither are other plants, so there must be some kind of equilibrium in action. I suppose there might be some signs somewhere if I looked for them hard enough but there is far too much else to do!
I met David Hurrion (excuse name drop) at GW Live and he suggested my case might be this bad because because the housing estate is quite new and the equilibrium hasn't happened yet. I'm can only hope that the toads will take care of business and that they like both squishy and crunchy vine weevils!
