Wrought iron gate issue

Morning all, I had a problem recently in that a screw on one of the brackets for the wrought iron gate rusted off into the mortar (not brickwork) and having succeeded in removing the other half it has left a rather large hole in the mortar. Did a bit of Googling looking for a suitable product I could repair the hole with, came across something from Toolstation that read as though it would suffice but it didn't, the screw just pulled straight out! So I'm back to square one, please can anyone suggest what off the shelf product I could try to carry out the repair. Thank you

Gorilla glue. I've used it for all sorts of stuff - inside and out. It's surprisingly good!

Alternatively, you can get ready mixed mortar which might be worth trying, but if it's not that big a hole, it might be pricey for doing that. If the mortar's a bit poor, it would be worth digging out a bit more so that some new mortar would hold better.

  • I used a type of resin on my gate anchor bolt and its holding well. Not sure what it was as it was a few years ago. It was a 2part resin that mixed as you dispensed it via one of those guns (that you use for sealant) and was fronm screwfix I think.

On occasion I've drilled a hole into a wall that was a bit wider then I'd intended.
When I put a rawlplug in and tried to screw the screw in, the screw just came out again.
I'd pack the hole out with a few matchsticks and screw the screw into that - always worked.
As a side-note I don't think i've ever penned a note with the word 'screw' in it so much :)
