    You can just prune it back if you want.  :)
    They're fabulous for pollinators etc. Flowers and berries, and the evergreen ones are also good for birds to hide and/or nest in. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    A colossal cotonester ! I had the same problem as you with a flowering currant which I have now cut back, I have a huge Ceonothus that has so much dead wood on it that I think it's going to take me two weeks to get prune out all the dead stuff and then there's the enormous Pittosporum that's leaning over a 14 foot high wall and I need a professional to prune it as really cannot get to the top of it!
