Iris query

Hello

We've been in our house for 6 years and although previously there have been iris leaves under our tree, they've never flowered but, this year they flowered.

Interestingly the leaves seem to have disease this year. When they've not flowered the leaves have been pristine

My question is, why would it have taken so long to flower and what can I do if I want to grow from seed? I assume what I've circled will eventually turn to a seed? What do I do with them?

Thank you so much 😊

They look like Iris Foetidissima. The seeds will be bright orange, rather beautiful and can be harvested when they start to shrivel, and can then be planted.
