Hi Guys
hopefully i will get some help from either across the pond or someone who knows

are American garden hose fittings different from the standard UK ones below or are they interchangeable?

They look the same.
UK fittings will typically fit 1/2" to 5/8" hoses

Some of them certainly, as I have some still in use bought there years ago. I also have a very strong garden hose from there which is fine after thirty years.

I expect so but it was a long time ago! I seem to remember that there was a better selection and quality there.

I believe the threaded connections are the same, but not sure about the push connections sizing. They're available but not commonly used. I have quick-connects for my air tools, but my garden hose nozzle doesn't get changed frequently enough to fuss with the extra hardware. Our fittings tend to be made of brass, not plastic, though I'm not sure that's relevant here. My only comment would be to take care of the metric v imperial conundrum. That said I have nothing else. 😳
