Perennial Recommendations

harmonyharmony Posts: 403
Hi, any recommendations for a perennial, must be able to tolerate 2 sprawling cranesbill .
The area is morning /evening sun and afternoon shade, normal / clay soil. Orange or purple and evergreen if possible ( i know that is a big ask ) . Prefer something that doesn't flop and is around 30/60cm and summer flowering. I prefer the cottage garden look. Thanks

Perennials aren't evergreen. By definition they die back in the winter, although some do seem to cling on to some foliage in a mild winter - one of my penstemons, Stapleford Gem, does that.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Persicaria and Japanese Anemones happy in the clay soil and good with a bit of shade. Slightly later flowering though

Haemorocalis - Day Lilly - flowering now - different varieties but the basic one is Orange and flowers in both sun and shade.  Not evergreen but tough as old boots. Should suit your height requirement ( towards the top end I'd say ) but be careful as it will spread over time :)
