Does anyone recognise this seedling?

KJAKJA Posts: 16
Hi,
I’ve had loads of these pop up all through my lawn. It is our first summer in the house so not sure where they have seeded up from. My neighbours garden is like a tip, so could be something growing in there that has seeded up bit hard to see.
I took the attached photos before I cut the grass. Would be curious to know what they are if anyone knows.
Thanks.

They look like suckers from a nearby tree to me.
Ideally they should be ripped out, pulling them in the direction of the offending tree.
Doing it that way removes the 'bud' on the root from which they came.
If you just cut them off they will re-grow.

As yours are on the lawn, frequent mowing will eventually cause them to give up - which may be an easier option.

  • I agree with Pete.8. I get them throughout the summer from lilac and cherry trees that are nearby.

I get them from cherry and plum trees.

Thanks everyone. There was a cherry tree near to this spot that was previously removed and a plum tree not too far away.  I’m guessing they are coming up from the roots?
I’ll keep mowing over until they give up. 😊
