Iffy Looking Plums

When the leaves on my Czar plum started coming through they were all crumpled. An inspection showed little brown bugs (aphids?) but since it wasn't long until ladybirds should have been coming out, I left it in anticipation of them emerging and taking care of the problem. Of course, the ladybirds just had to be late out this year. To start with the plums looked perfectly normal but now they're looking less normal and not at all like they'll be edible.

What has gone on here? I suspect I may have been incorrect in my earlier assumption that this was just an aphid problem that would sort itself out. I'm hoping this will be a this year only thing but am bracing myself for something worse.

Not sure but some of the leaf damage maybe due to aphids and the plums could be due to plum moth or plum sawfly.

  • I assumed the leaf damage was aphids although the new leaves are still very much curled despite not really being able to see much in the way of aphids anymore. I've always had problems with plum moth but never had any plums look like that. Usually it's just a hole and the clear resin.
