Morning glory

My morning glory seeds all germinated fine, but since potting them on they haven't grown at all. They're all only about 9cm tall and have been like this for weeks.  At the moment they're still in the cold frame.  In previous years they've grown so fast they get tangled up with each other within a couple of weeks of germinating. Any ideas on what's stopping them?

What sort of compost are they in? There have been a lot of complaints on this site about peat free compost. Try them with a bit of liquud feed or fertiliser and see if it makes a difference.

Our seeds were germinated in one of the peat free composts and while they did start they were very slow to move onto the true leaves. Roots though were coming through so decided to plant them out. Again they sat and sulked for some weeks and it is only now that they have decided to move on and up. They have been outdoors now for about 3 weeks.

I find they do best in a fairly poor soil - germination within a week and mine are romping away, over 1 mt tall and flowering nicely.  Hope yours pick up soon @rosemaryjolly2FvPN9Af6 - they are such attractive plants.
  • Thank you for the replies. I will try feeding them.  They did have healthy looking roots when I potted them up.  I did wonder about the peat free compost, and wonder if we should add our own home made compost?  I've grown these from seed for years, and never had a problem before.  They are such beautiful plants and the flowers are stunning, and it's a plant I've never found as seedlings at garden centres.

Don’t feed too much unless you prefer leaves to flowers. Even if they are still small plant them out. I always find they prefer to have space, as soon as they are out of the little pots they take off and you are soon wondering whether they are trying to reach the sky.
