Looking to improve my garden

Hello guys,

I'm new to the forum and seeking advice on how to make my garden a more usable area.

There isn't much room for any furniture. I'm looking for ways to improve the use of the garden without making any permanent changes. My landlord doesn't want me to remove and rebuild the retaining wall which is making this process difficult for me.

Any advice would be appreciated

    Welcome to the forum  :)

It's tricky if your landlord doesn't want any changes made, l'm guessing that means you are restricted to growing things in pots.
There's nothing to stop you weeding the paving and tidying up along the edge of the wall. I must say it doesn't look in the best condition ,but a quick tidy up will improve things to start with.

When you say "improving the use of the garden", what use do you want to get out of it ?

@jayg.jay6078th5Vnx Which way does the property face? It is good to be able to sit in both a sunny and a shady spot. My first thought was to get the Ivy off the paint work. Are you wanting to just tidy up or will you be planting. There is a thread at present about clearing weeds from paving which would give you a start. Go to' How to kill this unwanted intruding plant'. You may receive more questions, with full answers you should get some more advice.  Welcome
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

    Hi thanks for your reply.
I've not long moved in I will be clearing all the weeds this weekend. I would like to make it a seating are there is a lot of sun all though the day or maybe get my hot tub out of storage and some how put it up.

I've got the green light to remove/ change the slabs and the pebbles.

I have a lot of garden furniture from my last house that I would like to make use of.

Would wondering if I could have some kind of deck built that would cove the corner area.

Hi thank you for the reply
I am a good at general gardening and will be able to make it look presentable. But I would like to some how change the landscape so allow more space for my furniture. Hopefully I can start hosting and having friend and family around again.

More fool your landlord! If it was me I would be only too pleased that a tenant is prepared to spend their time and effort making a lovely garden.

Incompetent tenants can also do untold damage @Poppypuss . Not everyone can do building work - even simple stuff :)

It just needs a good tidy up. I don't think adding a deck is a good idea, unless you know what you're doing, or you're employing someone skilled, and have discussed it with the landlord, especially if you intended increasing the size of the current hard landscaped area into the grassed area.
There can be all sorts of problems with that because it would be a raised deck.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
