We used to go every year as kids and I remember the "dancing diggers" and the "white helmets" (think thats what they were called, a motorbike display team). It still looks exactly the same as I remember it, which is nice. Not so great weather there this morning.
I haven't been to an agricultural show for years but these lovely photos instantly brought to mind the smell of animals and crushed grass, food stalls, and utter exhaustion at the end of a hot day. Wonderful.
Thanks so much for posting @Busy-Lizzie. It's years since l've been to an agricultural show, l love them. As @Ceres says, they capture the day out perfectly
Thank you for sharing your wonderful pictures Busy. Really like most of them - the man on the bike/with the bike is scary and the gravel wasteland is not my cup of tea at all. Each to his own.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Thank you for the wonderful pictures, they brought back a lot of memories for me. Used to show my Highland stallion at the South of England show at Ardingly and also at the show at Detling in Kent - he was Champion of his class here and then went on to win the Best in Show over all the other native breeds. We even did a bit of dressage and jumping with him over the years, a very special boy but also very kind and gentle too. We also had a couple of jersey cows amongst our dairy herd, I just love jersey cows. I'm sure you were both very tired by the end of the day but it sounds as though you had an enjoyable time.
I wonder if I ever saw you at Ardingly @AnnaB. We used to go there when we lived in Kent in the early 80s. I used to keep a Jersey house cow, I milked her by hand then, when we moved to France and it was hard to buy fresh milk in those days I had another Jersey.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Sorry @Busy-Lizzie but my visits to Ardingly came in the 70's, at the end of the 70's we moved on and away from the area. A little secret - our local village shop here sells fresh jersey cream in a tub, the cream from the top of a churn full of jersey mild, just cream, no additives. Glorious, especially added to fruit dishes or your coffee. I have a tub a week, naughty me. Please dont tell anyone
