What is this plant.

Hi,could someone tell me what this plant is please,it seems to be taking over everything.Should I dig it up & get rid. It’s been in my garden for a few years now, although I can’t remember  buying it.It looks nice in early spring when it starts to sprout, but gets out of hand about now. & looks unsightly.Any advice would be most welcome.

I think it's a Sedum, now officially known as Hylotelephium spectabile  :)

It responds well to the 'Chelsea chop' (cut back at about the time of the Chelsea flower show) It doesn't flop so much then

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • Thank you both.Nutcutlet would it be  ok to cut it back now then even though it’s a bit late?

If you chop it now you would probably lose all the flowers yet to come.
  • Ok Papi Jo I will leave it until it has finished flowering.Thank you very much for your good advice.

If it is S spectabile, let it finish flowering unless it offends you.  You can then cut it back and you should be able to see the new rosettes growing ready for next year.
I must admit the white flowers present a rather wishy washy appearance - I much prefer the Autumn Joy but that's a personal preference  :)

My "Autumn Joy" , the most popular one, looks like this at this time of the year.  Early autumn it will develop deep red flowers, beloved of bees.
