I suggest looking up tree mushroom on Google,  it looks somewhat like birch polypore but there are a few for you to look through @newbie77

    Some kind of bracket fungus.

There’s one pic via google that looks like yours. The guy has called it Bread Roll Fungus 😂

It might be Shaggy Bracket fungus, Inonotus hispidus - https://www.first-nature.com/fungi/inonotus-hispidus.php

The bad news is that your apple tree is not long for this world.

I can't help with the type of fungus, but it reminded me that someone told us about fifteen years ago that one of our trees would die soon as it is covered in bracket fungi, it's still here!  B)

It might still be upright @floralies , but it could well be hollow by now, even if it still has leaves.
Our neighbours had an Ash tree taken down, big healthy looking, lots of growth. Unbeknown to them it was rotten inside and would have flattened anyone of four houses when it came down,  which the tree surgeon said wouldn't have been long.

That might well be the case @purplerallim, luckily its not in a place to do any harm.

Thanks a lot. Yes that's is my main worry that it could destroy my apple tree. I will read more about it and how to save the tree.
