Tree ID needed

A small tree in my garden, which appeared dead when I moved in 2 years ago, now has signs of life. Any idea if it is a Camellia or something else?

    A full picture would help but my immediate thought is that it’s possibly a bay Laurus nobilis. The leaves will be aromatic, when crushed, if it is
