Which clematis is this

Pls can anyone tell me which clematis this is. spotted in a garden whilst on holiday.my guess is Princess Diana?????

    It looks like Princess Diana to me too. I had it in my old garden.
    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    It also looks like clematis texensis Maxima.  I have both and the flowers are very similar but Maxima grows bigger and stronger - 3 to 4 metres instead of 2 to 3.
    Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

    ..this is 'Princess Diana'... note the dark pink inner, the almost red outer with white markings.


    ...this is 'Duchess of Albany'.. note the lighter pink centre band, and lighter pink outer, not red.  Altogether lighter than Princess Diana, without any white.


    your photo may not be giving the true colours, and I would guess that Princess Diana is the more popular cultivar likely to be seen in gardens.. however I wouldn't like to be sure which one of these two you have..

    I buy all my clematis from Taylor’s and I’m sure they would know.
  • That looks stunning. I think you're right, it looks like Princess Diana. The give away are those flowers with the bright pink and white petals.
