Trellis for rose

Hi we've bought an expanding willow trellis for our new rose and was wondering if people put spacers behind them to move them off the walls a bit more?

Im just looking for ideas & pics on how to do it,seems to be harder with a willow trellis.
  • Maybe wooden battens fixed to the wall then staple the trellis on. Not the staples used for paper of course but my OH said that's what they're called.

I'm not sure these expanding trellises are ever sturdy enough for climbers - especially something as heavy as a rose. Are you sure it's going to be suitable?

Yes - on battens for airflow is always the best method.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I'm not sure tbh we've got one the other side so bought another to match.

The other is sitting on long screws with wire.
