Pear Tree Problem

bawjbawj Posts: 3
Hi
I bought a Concorde pear tree earlier this year and have it in a large container.  I have noticed recently that although there is some healthy looking new growth, most of the other leaves have black edges, some with spots on them, also where the few blossoms were these look black and dried up.
As there appear to be so many things it could be suffering from can anyone please identify exactly what it is and how to deal with it.
Thank you.

  • Ithink you have what they call fireblight. You will need to prune out the burnt looking wood and leaves .You will need to go back to healthy wood All the best

Pear leaves get all sorts of damage to them.
A couple of mine look in an awful state this year, but they'll recover.
If it's fireblight you'll see that all the leaves at the ends of some branches have been completely 'burned'.
    I don't think it's fireblight

I agree @Pete.8 … from the limited photo evidence we have I can’t see anything that’d make me think of Fireblight.

    Hi
Thank you all for taking the time to reply, from last comment of limited photo evidence I have tried to take better pics.  Hopefully these will help more with 'diagnosis'.

    That'll be pear blister mites.
It shouldn't harm the fruit or tree and the fruit will be safe to eat.
There are no sprays available for it.
One of mine has it badly this year.

Thanks to all for replies. Will wait and see what happens to tree next year then.

I too have Concorde pear. I wonder if its not thriving as its in a pot. Most trees need to be in the ground, and even thought they say it's a small tree, it can still grow to quite a size and needs room for the roots.
You say large container,  I wouldn't give it less than barrel sized, and then it will need plenty of watering daily @bawj
